Learning how to stay positive during devastation is something I'm working hard on. I'm still in disbelief that my family home is in ruins. This past Tuesday, when no one was home, a fire started in my old bedroom. Firefighters still don't know what caused it.
My brother and his girlfriend came home to find the street filled with police cars and fire engines putting out the fire. By the time they arrived, it'd already done it's damage. My mom was in tears, and everything inside the house is a complete loss.
I got the call while I was driving to class that night and immediately drove home to be with my family. When I pulled up I couldn't believe how many people came out to support my family. Friends, neighbors and strangers all came to help. It was one of the most beautiful things I'd ever experienced. That was when I knew we were going to be alright.
Since then all we've received is love from everyone. I'm so grateful everyone I love is safe and is taken care of. We are well on our way to recovering and have the best team of experts on hand assuring us our assets will be taken care of.
It's sort of amazing how something so devastating can bring so many people together. There is so much love around us right now and I'm thankful for every bit of it.
